THE PURPOSE

Hunt 54 UD Carbon Spoke Disc Wheelset은 검증된 Hunt TaperLock carbon spoke technology을 적용하여 스틸 스포크 휠셋처럼 손쉽게 정비가 가능한 카본 스포크 휠셋이다(Carbon Spoke Tension 조정은 림테이프를 제거한 후 림 내부에 체결된 스포크 헤드를 육각 렌치로 돌려 조정). 측면 강성 (lateral stiffness)의 향상으로 스포크 교체가능한 휠셋에서는 볼 수 없었던 강성 대비 무게 비율을 실현한 휠셋이다.

SLC HUBS

완전히 새롭게 개발된 Sprint SLC 허브는 강성과 힘전달력을 강화하여 보다 직진성을 향상시켰으며 허브 쉘은 냉간단조기법으로 제조된 7000 시리즈 알루미늄 합금으로 제작되어 6000 시리즈 합금보다 뛰어난 무게대비 강성을 제공한다. 15mm 대구경 허브 액슬로 스프린팅이나 오르막 댄싱에 더 뛰어난 반응성을 제공한다. 원형의 드롭아웃 표면은 확실한 장착성을 제공한다.  

현격하게 감소된 무게와 함께 스틸 스포크 휠셋보다 6% 측면 반응성(lateral responsiveness)이 향상되었으며 UD carbon spokes로 인하여 노면 진동 흡수력(vibration obsorbtion)이 향상되었다. 

Hunt engineer manager인 Luisa Grappone에 의해 실시된 통풍실험을 거치며 개발된 Aerodynamicist 29mm-wide rim은 타이어 장착부위에 hook이 있는 형태를 가진 tubeless-ready rim으로 클린처와 튜브리스 타이어 모두 대응이 가능하다. 아래 풍동실험 결과 참조.

FEATURES

• AERODYNAMICIST RIM PROFILE: Hunt Limitless Research project와 지난 2년에 걸친 지속적인 wind tunnel 경험을 바탕으로 로드자전거에서 최적의 공기역학 성능은 림폭을 증가시키는 것에서 얻을 수 있음을 알게 되었다. 그 이유는 스포크가 림에 장착되는 스포크 베드 (spoke bed) 부위가 훨씬 더 완만한 형상을 가지게 되기 때문이다. 이러한 스포크 베드의 완만한 형상은 예상가능한 공기흐름을 일으키며 회전하고 공기가 림을 감싸안으며 통과하게 된다. 이는 기존 V-Shape rim들에서 공기가 막히면서 난류가 발생했던 것과 대비된다. 더 넓어진 광폭 림형상은 공기가 최대한 오랜동안 림의 표면에 붙어서 지나가게 하기때문에 측면 각도 (yaw angles)가 증가할수록 공기역학에서 중요하게 작용하게 된다. 
• TAPERLOCK HUBS: Carbon spoke에 최적화된 TaperLock SPRINT hubs는 강도와 파워 전달력을 증대하여 페달링 파워가 직진 운동에 최대한 사용되도록 해준다. 15mm 대구경의 hub axles은 스프린트와 오르막 댄싱에서 보다 향상된 반응성을 제공한다. 원형의 dropout interface는 강성을 보다 강화시켜준다.
• UD CARBON SPOKES: 믿을 수 없을 정도로 강한 (over 450kgf per spoke) TaperLock UD carbon spokes는 하나의 스포크 무게가 단지 2.7그램에 불구함에도 스틸 스포크 대비 30% 이상의 강성을 보이며 TaperLock technology를 적용되어 손쉽게 spoke key를 사용하여 림 베드안에서 스포크의 텐션 조정을 할 수 있게 되었다. 전륜 18 스포크 (2 cross 로터 사이드, radial 드라이브 사이드) 후륜 20 스포크 (2 cross 양쪽 사이드 모두) 적용. 
• TIRE WIDTH OPTIMISATION: 25C 타이어에 최적화된 20mm 내부 림폭을 적용하였고 (물론 23C와 28C 타이어도 장착 가능) Hunt의 다른 림들과 동일하게 안전성 확보를 위한 hooked tire retention design과 tubeless-ready가 적용되었다.
• FREEHUB BODY - 3개의 teeth를 가진 3개의 pawls 그리고 48t ratchet ring으로 구성된 Freehub body로 7.5도의 낮은 체결 각도로 즉각적인 체결이 가능하다. 휠셋의 수리 비용 발생을 막고자 하는 Hunt의 의지는 내구성을 중요시하게 되어 Hunt freehub bodies는 Steel Spline 삽입으로 강화시켜 일반 적으로 자주 보게되는 cassette sprocket damage가 발생하는 것을 최소화해준다.  
• RIM BED - H-Lock이라는 Hunt만의 tubeless-ready rim bed profile은 tubeless tire의 첫 장착부터 탁월한 밀착된 장착이 가능하도록 하며 한번 타이어 비드가 자리잡으면 보다 확실하게 밀착된 상태를 만들어준다. 이러한 특성은 오프로드에서 낮은 타이어 공기압으로 달릴 때 더욱 중요하게 된다. 
• COMFORT: 스틸 스포크보다 가볍고 강한 카본섬유복합소재의 스포크는 노면 진동을 흡수하는 내부 충격 에너지 분산력이 우수하다. 거기에 카본소재의 강성 덕분에 스포크의 갯수를 줄임으로써 승차감과 노면 반응성이 한층 더 개선되었다. 
• STIFFNESS-TO-WEIGHT: 측면 강성의 현격한 증가로 인하여 교체 가능한 스포크를 가진 휠셋에서는 볼 수 없었던 강성 대비 무게 비율을 실현하여 1,456g에 불가한 무게에서 측면 반응성의 현격한 증가를 보였다. 이로 인하여 디스크 휠셋으로서 최고의 속도를 보여준다. 
• TUBELESS READY: HUNT는 튜브리스 타이어의 펑크 방지성능과 뛰어난 그립력을 매일 라이딩에서 만끽한다. 따라서, 이러한 혜택을 라이더들에게 제공하기 위해서 튜브리스 레디를 모든 Hunt Wheelsets에 적용하였다. 튜브리스 레디 적용으로 인하여 튜브리스 타이어와 클린처 타이어 모두 장착이 가능하다.
• ADAPTABILITY: Hunt의 휠셋은 미래의 사양변경에도 대응할 수 있도록 개발되어 현재의 어떠한 axle standard도 대응하고 있으며 (다만 본 휠셋은 과거 15mm front road TA standard는 지원하지 않는다.) 시마노 유압디스크 브레이크 채택이 증가하는 상황을 감안하여 centre-lock hubs에 6 bolt adaptors를 기본으로 제공하고 있다.

SPECS OVERVIEW

• Rims | 완전히 새롭게 디자인된 Aerodynamicist disc-specific rim profiles을 가지며 Toray T700/T800 carbon-fibre를 사용하여 제조된다. 더 높은 무게 대비 강성 비율을 얻기 위해서 더 높은 비율의 T800 (T40) fibres를 적용된다. 스포크 장착 부위는 3K 직조 형태가 적용되며 사이드월은 단방향 직조 형태가 적용된다. 감량된 무게, 낮은 구름 저항성 그리고 더 나은 펑크 방지를 실현한 튜브리스 레디를 대응하는 림이다.
• Tires | 25~28C 튜브리스 타이어의 최상의 공기역학 성능에 최적화된 20mm rim bed가 적용되었으며 23C 타이어도 사용이 가능하다. 
• Hubs | 카본 스포크 장착을 위해 디자인된 TaperLock Sprint straight-pull hubs로 15mm 지름의 7075-T6 axle을 가지며 원형의 dropout interface는 강성을 높여준다. 즉각적인 체결이 가능한 7.5˚의 낮은 낮은 각도를 실현하는 3개의 이빨을 가진 3개의 Pawls를 가진다. 카세트 바디에는 추가적인 steel spline이 삽입되어 카세트 바디의 손상을 방지한다.

• Max Air Pressure I 25~28C 타이어를 장착한 경우 최대 타이어 공기압은 100psi이며 휠셋의 피로도를 줄이기 위해서 타이어 공기압은 최대 90psi까지 사용할 것을 권장합니다. 타이어에 따른 최대 공기압 허용치는 아래와 같습니다: 30C경우 70psi, 33C경우 50psi, 35-45C경우 40psi, 46C 이상의 경우 35psi이며 최대치를 넘기지 마세요.

THE PURPOSE

Introducing the 54 UD Carbon Spoke Disc, utilising our proven TaperLock carbon spoke technology, resulting in fully serviceable carbon-spoked wheels that can be trued like any other. With significant increases in lateral stiffness (see testing info below), they have been engineered to provide a stiffness-to-weight ratio previously unseen on serviceable wheels.

6% more laterally responsive than identical steel spoked wheel, with significantly less weight. Further benefiting from the high-frequency vibration absorption capabilities of carbon fibre in the UD spokes, as well as the rim. Please see graph in the "read more" section.

FEATURES

AERODYNAMICIST RIM PROFILE: As learned from our Limitless Research project & consistent wind tunnel time across the past 2 years, we know that an optimum aerodynamic benefit for a drop-bar bike is yielded from widening rim profiles. The reasons for this is that it allows for a far more 'blunted' spoke bed area, which (depending on which part of the wheel you're looking at) is both the leading and trailing edge. 

The benefits of blunted spoke bed areas revolve primarily around the predictable airflow, with the wind ‘hugging’ the rim as it passes across it (as opposed to older style V-shaped rims, which would create turbulence in the form of stalls). The wider profile ensures the flow stays attached to the surface as long as possible before the point of separation, which is key as yaw angles increase.

TAPERLOCK HUBS: Carbon spoke optimised TaperLock SPRINT hubs add strength and enhance power transfer meaning all your force pushes you forwards. Large 15mm diameter hub axles for sprinting and out-of-saddle climbing responsiveness. Circular dropout interface steps add extra stiffness.

UD CARBON SPOKES: Incredibly strong (achieving over 450kgf per spoke) TaperLock UD carbon spokes offering 30% increase in stiffness against steel ones. Only 2.7g per spoke. Due to the TaperLock technology, these spokes can be trued easily using a spoke key from within the rim bed.

TIRE WIDTH OPTIMISATION: Designed around a 20mm internal rim width optimised for a 25c tire (but will of course work without compromise with both 23c and 28c tires). Naturally, as with all of our rims, they feature a hooked tire retention design for safety, and are both fully ETRTO-compatible and tubeless-ready.

FREEHUB BODY: Featuring a 3 multi-point pawls with 3 teeth each and a 48 tooth ratchet ring results in an impressively low 7.5 degree engagement angle and excellent resistance to wear under heavy loads. The Sprint freehub has strong individual pawl springs which engage quicker. There is also a Steel Spline Insert re-enforcement to provide excellent durability against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.

RIM BED: H_LOCK is our tubeless-ready rim bed profile with up-kicks to the shoulders of the tubeless steps which help to create a great rim-well seal for first installation and easy sealing of tubeless tyres. The H-Lock profile also locks the beads in place more securely once seated. This is especially important when running lower pressures off road.

COMFORT: As well as carbon fibre composites being lighter and stiffer than steel, the inherent energy dissipation qualities seen in carbon fibre composites can play a significant role in “road buzz” absorption. Coupled with the reduced number of spokes required to achieve this stiffness, the ride quality and feedback can be greatly improved.

STIFFNESS-TO-WEIGHT: With significant increases in lateral stiffness, they have been engineered to provide a stiffness-to-weight ratio previously unseen on serviceable wheels. Coming in at just 1398g but with significant increases in lateral responsiveness, disc wheels have never been so fast.

TUBELESS READY: At HUNT we enjoy the puncture resistance and grip benefits of tubeless on our every-day rides so we wanted to allow you the same option, but of course these tubeless-ready wheels are also designed to work perfectly inner tubes, just use tubes in tubeless ready tires.

ADAPTABILITY: Our wheels are seriously future-proof. We can adapt your wheels to any current axle standard, you just need to let us know what you require by filling in the simple form on the confirmation page after checkout. Please note these wheels will not work with the older 15mm front road TA standard.. As Shimano hydraulic brakes are appearing on many new bikes, we wanted riders to have the option so we went even more adaptable with centre-lock hubs and 6 bolt adaptors included.

• Max Rider Weight I 125kgs is the upper recommended rider weight limit for these wheels. Please include the weight of any luggage in your total rider weight when choosing the correct wheels. If a rider is over 90Kgs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly and it is advisable to use tires at max 90psi as this will reduce the fatigue on the wheelset. 
• Max Air Pressure I Maximum tire pressure for this rim is 100psi when used with 25-28mm tires. 100 psi is more than enough for any rider on road. Maximum tire pressures for other tire sizes: 30mm do not exceed 70psi, 33mm do not exceed 50psi, 35-45mm do not exceed 40psi, 46mm+ do not exceed 35psi.
