PURPOSE

HUNT 엔지니어들과 최고 수준의 그래블 선수들이 협업하여 그래블 휠셋 카테고리를 선도하는 에어로다이내믹 성능과 경량 휠셋의 반응성을 결합한 광폭 타이어용 그래블 레이스 카본 휠셋을 개발하고자 하였다. Hunt 5AM Gravel Limitless Wheelset은 공기역학 림 형상들과 헌트 특허인 Limitless Width Aero Technology를 Pillar Super Wing spokes와 결합하여 가장 에어로다이내믹한 Vonoa Ti_UD 스포크와 헌트가 개발한 히든 니플을 적용하였다. 1,317그램의 휠셋 무게와 타이어 찍힘으로 인한 펑크발생을 막아주는 오버사이즈 림 비드형상을 가진 5AM Gravel Wheelset은 속도를 내기위해 만들어졌으며 Gravel Mexico에서 Hannah Shell이 우승을 하고 US Gravel National Championships에서 Sarah Lange가 2등을 하면서 그 성능을 입증하였다.

TECHNOLOGY

Designed from scratch by the HUNT engineering team to meet the future demands of high-speed gravel racing. Building on over ten years of aerodynamic and real-world rider testing, leveraging learnings from the 5-Stage Aero Development process, the HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless wheel system was engineered to prioritise key performance benefits: aerodynamic drag reduction optimised for modern gravel racing tyres (45-50mm); pinch flat protection and race-ready durability; stability and predictability in changing wind conditions; and low system weight for responsiveness and climbing efficiency. These demands are achieved through front and rear-specific aero maximised wheel designs, which consider each component in the context of optimal system efficiency.  

The front wheel runs in clean air, offering the greatest opportunity to reduce aerodynamic drag. By increasing rim depth and width, while minimising rotational drag with hidden spoke nipples, the 5AM Gravel maximises aerodynamic efficiency where it matters most without compromising crosswind stability. The 45mm-wide external rim profile with 9mm-wide rim beads smooths the airflow from wide gravel tyres across the rim profile. The wide, blunt profile of the bead is designed to spread impact force, preventing pinch flats.  

The rear wheel encounters turbulent airflow, downstream of the front wheel and tyre, frame, and rider movement, making rear wheel aerodynamic gains less important in the context of the complete system. Rear wheel efficiency is achieved by reducing weight and maximising power transfer. A shallower, narrower rim with a 5.5mm-wide bead provides efficient transmission of every watt to the ground, while preventing pinch flats. 

Among the competitive set, the 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD offers the lowest aerodynamic drag with 50mm tyres, offering a 1.5-watt advantage over the ZIPP 303 XPLR SW with 50mm Vittoria Terreno T30 tyres, and a 2.31-watt advantage with the same tyre in 45mm width.  Heavier rivals come close; the Roval Terra Aero and Reserve 48|53 GR tested within 0.56 and 0.21 watts of the 5AM Gravel Limitless Ti_UD with 50mm tyres, but at 1317g per pair, there’s nothing faster or lighter.

• HUNT recommends a 45-54mm tyre for best performance, tyre widths between 40mm and 60mm are also safe to use. Only use tyres suitable for hookless (TSS) rims. If unsure, please contact the tyre manufacturer. Leading brands, including Schwalbe, Continental and Vittoria, have many tyres suitable for hookless TSS rims. You must not exceed the maximum tyre pressure limits set out in the table below or the maximum limit set by your tyre manufacturer if this is lower (Max Pressures: 40~44C: 51 PSI / 45~54C: 44 PSI / 55~60C: 36 PSI). Note: best performance is usually gained by using tyre pressures lower than the maximum, you can see our blog post about this, read here. 

MAX RIDER WEIGHT

• A max system weight of 130kgs (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If a rider is over 105Kgs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
